Courtesy is Uncommon

It is hard for us now with the child, the extra responsibilities and sleeplessness, even slight things get us on edge. But what the hell??? How is this an argument? I'm too tired to think "please hold the door so I can reach the other door," but even if I explained, would I get cooperation? Probably not. What the hell? Take orders from me but don't you dare politely ask me to do something? Is this a Vietnamese thing?

Sincerely,
Going Out of My Mind

I love you AND...

***This is not my wife!***
It was just a funny thought I had. Yesterday she sent me the sweetest text, and I was just thinking how she hardly ever gives me any sort of compliment--means that when she does, it's extra special!

Silence of the Ducks

One very odd thing about Vietnam--no lake or pond has any ducks. Anywhere. The only ducks I saw were tethered around small shrimp pools for farmers and Indian spot-billed ducks in the protected Tram Chim National Park. The only thing you'll find are herons, and somehow they were almost hunted to extinction--I don't know how, but there was some intervention to save them, maybe because they are beneficial for eating rice-paddy pests. But no one talks about the ducks, they just aren't there. Create a human demand for something in nature and it will be gone.

--Oh, sorry, just remembered--water pollution! You can't blame people for everything.
